Did you know that more millionaires were made during The Great Depression than in any other time in history? A number of leaders saw and exploited emerging opportunities. These wise pioneers didn’t find themselves struggling like everyone else. Instead, they came out of this difficult time stronger and better off than the rest.Our current recession is certainly not The Great Depression, but there are some similarities. There are some differences too, one being the rate of speed that things happen these days. On top of losing our job and embarking on a career transition, we now have to deal with technology that seems to be moving faster than we are.

The secret to soaring during economic turmoil is quite simple, really. Just like the successful leaders in the past, you need to lead the way out of this recession by taking advantage of emerging opportunities.

First of all, there really isn’t much point looking in the box anymore. You need to look outside, over, and under the box. We already know that there are very few job postings being advertised these days. That’s because companies are downsizing. If you’re just applying to positions on the Internet, you’re sadly looking at a very small, undernourished part of the market. The best positions are still available. Companies need people who can help them figure a way out of this mess that they are in. If you can connect with the right people and clearly show them how you can help them thrive during this recession, they will hire you.

So, why are you looking at postings that thousands of other people are also looking at? Figure out what you can do to help a company. Then, get yourself out there in front of the people in charge and let them know how you can fix what ails them.

Not only must you get out from in that box, you must stay at the forefront of technology. Technology seems to be popping up left, right, and centre. We know that some people are still stuck in the “old times.” These professionals are timid and rigid. It seems like the world is changing so fast that they just can’t jump on. If you want to succeed in the next wave, you need to jump in. Learn and use technology like LinkedIn and Twitter to advance your career. The leaders, who are exploiting this stuff, are running away with opportunities that you may be missing.

Not all technologies help everyone. But, you owe it to yourself to figure out, learn, and use the technologies that are going to advance your career. If you are planning on leading an organization through its next metamorphosis, you cannot be left behind on this. Plus, wouldn’t it be great if you turned the tables and people found you instead of you finding them. This is what social networking is about.

So, now you know the real secret. You need to lead the way out of this recession. Not only will this enable you to get a meaningful job in this market, but you’ll elevate your own career and the perception people have of you at the same time. Who wouldn’t want to hire an innovative professional who will take their company – and them to the next level?
